Should I Take Omega-3 Supplements?

Did you know that the human body cannot produce omega-3 fatty acids? Omega-3s are essential fatty acids required for our healthy growth and development. Since we can’t make them ourselves, we have to get them through our diets.

Here are some reasons that make omega-3 fatty acids essential:

  • Sharp Brain: Omega-3 fatty acids are critical for proper brain function. These fatty acids are found in abundance in the brain, surrounding the brain cells and facilitating communication between them. A deficiency in omega-3 fatty acids can cause fatigue, poor memory and depression.
  • Healthy Heart: A diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids reduces risk factors for heart disease. Supplementing with fish oils, which contain omega-3s, has been shown to have a major impact on lowering triglyceride levels and decreasing blood pressure.
  • Boost the Immune System: Inflammation is the immune system’s natural response to protect itself in the presence of harmful stimuli. However, excessive or chronic inflammation can have detrimental effects. Omega 3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties that have a significant impact in reducing inflammation in the body. Supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids is a great way to treat illness and deficiencies or to generally boost health.
