Setting Routines and Establishing your Mental Framework

We all have aspirations - whether in our wellness journeys, professional careers, or private life.  Many times, the key to reaching these goals is persistantance and habit - setting the right routines and sticking to them.  This week, we caught up with Rick K., one of the most inspiring people we've ever had the chance to work with.  Rick is an Iron Man and competitor, father, and successful professional.  

We asked him about his routine, how he sticks to it and stays motivated, and how his supplement and nutrition plan helps him stay in the right frame of mind and achieve his lofty goals.

Setting a Routine

Alarm clock goes off at 4 AM and I hop out of bed to start my day with a training regime of some sorts. Whether that be getting on my cycling trainer, running, swimming, cross fit or strength, it is some combination of at least 2 activities.

What Are the Keys to A Successful Routine

Very simple actually, the right supplementation and nutritional plan along with enough sleep and motivation.

Where Does Your Motivation Come From

My motivation is internal! It is about knowing that every training session counts to get you to the next level. Take a moment and think of a time that you just said, I cannot do that, or wow that is a lot of work and I do not think I could do what you do.

These are some, among many statements that I hear from people of all kinds.

The funny thing is, they can do it! Each of us can achieve our goals from a fitness perspective, but it takes hard work, dedication, and the ability to know that you do your best in each workout.

Avoiding the "Trough of Sorrows"

There are some I speak with who beat themselves up over a crappy workout even though they are the only ones who know.

I use the 5x5x5 rule which works well when I run into these situations. 

The 5x5x5 rule is defined as asking yourself, will it matter in 5 hours, will it matter in 5 days and will it matter in 5 years.

If you answer yes to 5 years, I would suggest that it is time reevaluate the way you look at things, and even at 5 days. Because in the end, no one is paying attention except for you.

If you continue to get into your own head space, the negativity will manifest and the focus, motivation and desire will be lost. Be sure to be your own biggest advocator, not the one holding yourself back!

So how do you energize yourself to move forward?

First and foremost, it is a mindset shift.  After any struggle, it is important to get yourself in a better frame of mind after that.  You want to replace that "OMG…terrible workout in which there was no energy and I felt fatigued and slow" and immediately start to set your mindset towards how to be better next time.  

It also helps to have the right supplement and nutrition plan.

I use Red Root as the red violet beets and raw red spinach help give me longstanding cellular energy and endurance throughout my workouts.

Are supplements the answer for energy and motivation?

While the root factors and motivations are different for everyone, supplementation and specifically Red Root have been factors which have improved my performance and ability to reach the goals I have set for myself with regards to performance. 

To get technical, Beets are filled with nutrients specifically fiber, vitamin B9, manganese, potassium, iron and vitamin C. Consuming Red Root can improve your oxygen utilization, increase your stamina and ultimately….wait for it….lead to better performance during exercise.

Red Root also contains red spinach, a super food that contains the highest nitrate content out there. Some of the benefits include: improved digestion, kidney function, strength in hair roots, and immune support. There are plenty more in benefits as well but these are the ones that I have noticed personally.

To Recap: 

Life is full of surprises and things that can impede in reaching our fitness goals. If you are fighting fatigue, decrease performance, and lack of energy it is time to make a change. That change comes with not only nutritional components and supplementation.
