Homemade Granola Bars

VitalFit Planted, Source & Adapted Granola Bars

Granola Bars are the perfect on the go snack and one of the easiest foods to make at home.  What we wanted to do was provide the perfect base for your granola bars so that you can customize them anyway you like depending on your dietary needs.

The Base:

  • 2.5 cups of rolled oats

  • 1/2 cup nuts or seeds of your choice

  • 1/4 cup of honey

  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/4 cup of butter

How to Make:

  • First, melt butter, honey, and salt over a burner on low heat.
  • If you'd like, you can bake the nuts or seeds you want to use in the oven for about 10 minutes to help toast them and release some of the flavor - you can also skip this step if you'd like!
  • Once you have your liquid melted and the nuts/seeds ready to go, mix all of them together in a bowl with the oats.  You want to make sure the mixture is a bit wet, so if it's looking a little dry you can add a little water or more of the liquid mixture.
  • This is where the customization comes in - you can add all sorts of extras depending on what you're looking for, we'll detail a few ideas below!
  • Once the mixture is all set, form in a pan into a square shape
  • Then, put back in the oven around 300-350 until crispy brown.  If you prefer a softer granola bar, you can also bake for less time or add almond/peanut butter to your mixture.

We've experimented with many different recipes, a few of which are detailed below.

Tart Cherry Anti-Inflammatory bars - here, we add some dried tart cherries and/or craisins and sprinkle in a few servings of Tart Cherry powder to the mix.

Planted Protein Bars - Planted is the perfect addition to bars to add a little extra protein.  We love using Planted along with a few extra pumpkin and sunflower seeds.  This bar is also terrific with other types of granola mixed in - we're partial to Udis granola but any type will do the trick!

Adaptogen Spice Bars - These bars are great with some flax and chia seeds added.  You can also sprinkle some turmeric, Adapted, or Source for an added edge!

Kitchen Sink Bars - On these, we add each of our powders: Planted, Adapted, Source along with pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia and flax seeds and a bit of almond butter to thicken the mixture - equal parts indulgent and nutritious.

Another cool idea - it is a great idea to make a butter spread to drizzle over the top - another unique way to add supplements to your favorite bar.  We add Source or Planted to peanut or almond butter and spread over our bars or use it as a dip of sorts.

The key is to have fun, experiment, and see what works best for you!

If you create something awesome at home, send it to us - we always love to see what others are creating!
